INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – Homeowners are speaking out in favor of a bigger property tax cut. A rally was held at the Statehouse on Monday in response to Senate Bill 1. The measure contains a property tax relief proposal, but not at the rate proposed in Governor Braun’s property tax plan.
Governor Braun and Lieutenant Governor Micah Beckwith both spoke at the rally Monday rally. The governor says he spent 2023 and 2024 listening to Hoosiers who were frustrated by increasing property taxes.
Braun’s plan would have reset property tax rates to their 2021 levels – but lawmakers removed that from Senate Bill 1, pointing to the impacts the lack of revenue would have on local governments and school districts.
