SOUTH BEND, Ind. (ADAMS) – Indiana State Police (ISP) are investigating the death of an inmate at the St. Joseph County Jail. Officials say 32-year-old Jordan Sanders of South Bend was found suffering from a medical issue in his cell early Saturday morning. Staff began measures to try to save his life and continued those until the South Bend Fire Department arrived and took over. Sanders was pronounced dead in the jail.

The Indiana State Police has been requested to investigate the death of an inmate at the St. Joseph County Jail. The Indiana State Police were contacted early Saturday morning on March 15, 2025.
Preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 1:40 a.m. jail staff were alerted by an inmate that another inmate was suffering from an unknown medical distress in a cell. Jail staff immediately began lifesaving measures until South Bend Fire arrived. Despite lifesaving measures the inmate, Jordan Sanders, 32 of South Bend, IN was pronounced deceased at the jail.
An autopsy, to include toxicology, is scheduled to be performed on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI.
Family of Sanders has been notified.
