INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – With St. Patrick’s Day celebrations getting underway, the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI) is urging drivers to celebrate responsibly.
Drivers should be safe during St. Patrick’s Day by planning ahead if they intend to drink. They shouldn’t wait until after drinking to plan how to get somewhere.
Alcohol impairment clouds a person’s judgment. Drivers should secure a designated sober driver, call for a taxi, or rideshare for a sober ride home.
“There is no excuse for driving while impaired,” said Jim Bryan, ICJI’s Traffic Safety Director. “Even one drink can affect your ability to drive safely. If you plan to drink, plan for a sober ride home.”
To help with people’s plans, Sober Ride Indiana is offering $10 off Uber and Lyft rides starting on March 12 up to the early hours of March 18. Up to 1,000 vouchers are available each day. Ride credits are available between 5 p.m. and 3 a.m. the following day and must originate in, or have a final destination of, Indianapolis or Fort Wayne.
To redeem ride credits through the program, visit SoberRideIndiana.com. Then, click on “Redeem Ride Credits” and follow the instructions for the ridesharing service being used. Tips are not included in the discount, and users are responsible for any charges exceeding $10. Possession of the code does not guarantee the availability of the credit.
