FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – A 61-year-old Fort Wayne man is facing felony charges after police reportedly discovered he was in possession of what they called “destructive devices.”
Joe Ellis Gray, Jr. was arrested after officers from the Fort Wayne Police Department were called to assist another agency Monday afternoon in the 2200 block of Meridian Street close to West State, according to the city police. FWPD’s Hazardous Devices Unit also supported the investigation.
Police say the devices no longer pose any public safety risk, as the unit has since removed and secured them.
Gray is facing a preliminary felony charge for possession of a destructive device, which could result in a sentence of up to six years in prison. He is currently being held at the Allen County Jail.

The Fort Wayne Police Department was requested to assist another government agency just before 4:00 pm on March 10, 2025, in the 2200 block of Meridian St. due to concerns about suspicious looking devices inside a home. The FWPD Hazardous Devices Unit (HDU) responded to the scene to assist in the investigation. Members of the HDU determined the devices qualified as “destructive devices” under Indiana Code. The devices no longer pose a threat to public safety as HDU members were able to safely remove and secure the devices from the home without any injuries or damage occurring.
As a result of the investigation 61-year-old Joe Ellis Gray, Jr., was charged with a single count of Level 5 Felony Possession of a Destructive Device under State law.
