FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – One person is reported in critical condition following a crash on South Coliseum close to Schele Avenue early Friday morning.
The Fort Wayne Police Department says it happened around 3:30 when a vehicle hit a tree on South Coliseum close to New Haven Avenue. The FWPD says the driver, a juvenile, was alert and talking when officers and medics arrived. However, they were downgraded to have critical injuries once at the hospital.
Police think speed was a factor and they are continuing to investigate.
The FWPD released the following:
Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a motor vehicle crash in the area of S. Coliseum Blvd and New Haven Ave shortly before 3:30 am. Officers arrived in the area to locate a single vehicle crashed into a tree at S. Coliseum Blvd & Schele Ave.
The vehicle was initially southbound on Coliseum Blvd when it left the roadway. The impact of the crash split the vehicle in half leaving the back half wrapped around the tree and the front half continued to travel approximately 75 to 100 feet beyond the tree. The juvenile driver of the vehicle was alert and talking at the scene. The driver’s condition was later downgraded at a local hospital to life threatening. There were no
other occupants in the vehicle. Speed is a factor in the crash. It is unknown at this time if alcohol or drugs were a factor as well. At this time there is no indication another motor vehicle was involved in the crash.
This incident remains under investigation by FWPD FACT team and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
