FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – A listeria outbreak that has killed 11 people and sickened people in 21 states has been linked to Prairie Farms’ plant in Fort Wayne.
The frozen supplemental shakes that were voluntarily recalled were primarily given to hospital and long-term care patients.
They were under the brand names Sysco Imperial and Lyons ReadyCare.
The Indiana Department of Health released the following:
Long-term care facilities that purchased or received Lyons ReadyCare and Sysco Imperial Frozen Supplemental Shakes should not serve these products. Products should be immediately removed from the inventory and separately stored.
- Carefully clean and sanitize any surfaces or containers that they touched
- Follow FDA’s safe handling and cleaning advice to reduce the risk of cross-contamination
Listeria can survive in refrigerated temperatures and can easily spread to other foods and surfaces.
