INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – County jails in Indiana are no longer getting payments from the Indiana Department of Corrections for holding state prisoners and low-level felons.
The IDOC says they have exhausted their funding for this year and are working with the State Budget Agency to figure out options. Corrections Department spokeswoman Annie Goeller says they continue to communicate with counties on the issue.
Indiana Sheriff’s Association President Robert Goldsmith, who is also the Tippecanoe County Sheriff, says it’s “very disappointing” and says as far as the state not being able to pay, he doesn’t “understand that part of it enough to even get mad.”
