ANGOLA, Ind. (ADAMS) – A local man and woman are behind bars on several charges after a traffic stop on Sunday, according to Indiana State Police with the Fort Wayne Post.
ISP says that at around 6:15 p.m., troopers stopped a gray Ford truck for speeding on US 20 near CR 200 W, close to Angola. The truck was driven by Anthony Steel of Fort Wayne. During the stop, another Trooper, along with his K-9 partner, was called in to inspect the vehicle.
Their search uncovered a stolen handgun and a white powdery substance suspected to be methamphetamine.
Both the driver and passenger were arrested and taken to the Steuben County Jail. While in custody, a white powdery substance, also believed to be methamphetamine, was found in Mr. Steel’s possession. All evidence was collected and sent to the Indiana State Police Regional Lab for analysis.

On February 9, 2025, around 6:17pm, Indiana State Police Troopers stopped a gray Ford truck for speed on US20 near CR200 W near Angola. The Ford was driven by Anthony Steel of Ft. Wayne. During the traffic stop, another Trooper and his K-9 partner were called to perform a check of the vehicle. This investigation led to the discovery of a stolen handgun and a white powdery substance believed to be methamphetamine. The driver and passenger were both arrested and transported to the Steuben County Jail. While at the jail a white powdery substance believed to be methamphetamine was discovered in Mr. Steel’s possession. All evidence was seized and taken to the Indiana State Police Regional Lab for testing.

Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon – Level 4 Felony
Theft of a Firearm – Level 5 Felony
Trafficking Contraband into a Correctional Facility – Level 5 Felony
Possession of Methamphetamine – Level 6 Felony
Possession of Paraphernalia – Class C Misdemeanor
Passenger, Lita Smoker 20 of Angola was arrested for:
Dealing Methamphetamine – Level 2 Felony
Possession of Methamphetamine – Level 3 Felony
Theft of Firearm – Level 5 Felony
Possession of Methamphetamine – Level 6 Felony
Possession of Paraphernalia – Class C Misdemeanor
Indiana State Police was assisted by the Angola Police Department.
