The FWPD released the following:
Fort Wayne Police Officers were summoned to the 900 block of Columbia Ave just before 9:00 am reference a male experiencing a mental illness crisis. The male had called 911 making concerning statements which included that he had killed people.
Officers on-scene were informed by others the male might have access to firearms inside the home and had made threats of taking his own life. At one point the male exited the home wearing only his underwear and flip-flops. He also was armed with what appeared to be a sword. The Emergency Services Team (EST), Crisis
Response Team (CRT), and Airal Support Unit were requested to assist in the investigation.
CRT made multiple attempts to speak with the male to compel him to exit the home voluntarily; however, he refused to establish contact. A court order for mental health treatment was pursued and granted by the court. A chemical agent was released inside the home by EST to entice the male subject to exit the home. The male did not exit the home after the introduction of the chemical agent. EST made entry to the home locating the male who surrendered peacefully at approximately 2:45 pm.
The male was the only person located in the home. The male was evaluated by medics on-scene prior to being transported to a local hospital by officers. There are no criminal charges related to this investigation at this time.
