INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – State lawmakers are considering a bill that would reduce the number of early voting days in Indiana. Senate Bill 284 proposes cutting the early voting window in half from 28 days before elections to 14 days.
State Senator Gary Byrne originally authored the bill with a 7-day early voting timeframe, but it was amended to 14 days. Despite hearing from members of the public this week who oppose the measure, it was advanced out of committee to the full senate on a six to three vote.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Indiana Senate Elections Committee has approved bills to close primary elections to unaffiliated voters and shorten early voting.
Early votes can be cast in person for 28 days before an election, but Senate Bill 284 would reduce that to 14 days.
Senator Gary Byrne of Byrnesville is the author of the bill and says clerks have complained about not having enough to staff early voting centers for 28 days. The bill to close primaries would require a voter to choose between the Democratic or Republican parties when they register to vote, which is not currently required.
