FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) says a pedestrian was hit and killed at the intersection of State Boulevard and Hobson Road just after 8 Wednesday night.
The victim was crossing the road in an unlit area when they were hit, and they died after being taken to a hospital. The driver says they did not see the person in time to be able to stop.
Police say speed and alcohol were not factors and that the driver is cooperating with the investigation.
The FWPD released the following:
On January 29, 2025, at approximately 8:11pm, FWPD received a call about a vehicle that had struck a pedestrian, in the area of E State Blvd and Hobson Rd. When Officers arrived, they found the pedestrian victim suffering from life-threatening injuries. The victim was then transported to a local hospital, where they would later be pronounced deceased.
Officers learned that the initial crash involved a vehicle traveling west on E State Blvd, where the pedestrian was crossing the roadway in an undesignated crosswalk. The pedestrian, who was using a walker as a wheelchair, was crossing the roadway in an unlight area and crossed in front of moving traffic. The driver of the vehicle did not notice the pedestrian and was unable to stop. The driver of the vehicle was not injured. Speed and alcohol were not factors in the accident.
The crash remains under investigation by the FWPD FACT team and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
