FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The man charged with the stabbing death of 48-year-old Anthony Wamue at a Fort Wayne park says the victim was harassing women there.
Lamont Cooley was arrested on Monday for the Saturday stabbing at Promenade Park. Court documents say Cooley told police that Wamue pulled a knife on him when he confronted him for the harassment. He then says he stabbed Wamue in the chest to protect a woman.

UPDATE (January 7, 2025):
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – An arrest was quickly made in Allen County’s first homicide in 2025. A 23-year-old was arrested and charged with murder in a Fort Wayne stabbing that happened Saturday night.
Lamont Cooley was charged in the death of 48-year-old Anthony Wamue in Promenade Park. He was found dead in a bathroom at the park, and Cooley was arrested just after 4:30 p.m. Monday.
It was just a few hours before that the FWPD had put out the following information offering a reward for information in the case.
Around 8 p.m., the FWPD released the following:
On 1/4/2025 the Fort Wayne Homicide Unit was paged out to conduct the criminal investigation into the homicide of 48yo Anthony Wamue that occurred in the 200 block of W. Superior Street. On Monday, January 6th, 2025, at 1639 hours, 23yo Lamont Cooley was taken into custody in the 400 block W. Washington Blvd for the murder of Anthony Wamue. Lamont Cooley was transported to the Allen County Jail for one count of murder. The Fort Wayne Homicide Unit was assisted in the investigation by the Gang and Violent Crime Unit, the Vice and Narcotics Division, the Aerial Support Unit, the Downtown Patrol Unit, and the Allen County Prosecutors Office.

Wamue was identified by the Allen County Coroner, who says he is the first homicide victim of 2025 for the county.
The following was released on Monday:
On January 4, 2025, the Allen County Coroner’s Office was notified of a death investigation at Promenade Park
located at 202 W. Superior Street, Fort Wayne, Indiana. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene.
The victim was identified as Anthony Paul Wamue, male, Black, 48 years of age from Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Notification has been made to the next of kin and an autopsy has been completed. The Cause of Death is Stab Wounds of Torso, and the Manner of Death is Homicide.
Anthony Paul Wamue is the 1st Homicide for Allen County in 2025.
The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

On (January) 4, 2025, at approximately 9:05 p.m., the Fort Wayne Police Department received a report of an unconscious person found inside a bathroom at Promenade Park. When officers arrived, they discovered a victim with apparent stab wounds. Both officers and medics performed life-saving measures on the scene, but the victim was later pronounced deceased by medics.
At this time, there is limited information available. Homicide detectives are actively working to gather all relevant information and evidence related to the case.
