STEUBEN CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – An Angola man was arrested after allegedly shooting at a woman in her car, following a request for a ride.
On Saturday, shortly after 6:30 p.m., Steuben County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the intersection of CR 850 E and Metz R in response to reports of a shooting. The woman had called the police, stating that she had been shot while inside her vehicle near a home on East Metz Road.
Upon arriving at the scene, deputies discovered that the woman was unharmed, but her vehicle had visible damage from a gunshot. The woman identified the suspect as 25-year-old Skylar Alan Wilber of Angola.
She told deputies that Wilber had asked her for a ride, but when she arrived, he came outside the house visibly upset and fired a handgun at her car.
Given the situation, deputies contacted the Steuben County Sheriff’s Special Response Tactical Team (SRT) to execute a search warrant. Before the warrant could be served, Wilber emerged from the house and surrendered to authorities.
He was taken into custody, and a search of the home uncovered suspected marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and evidence indicating a firearm had been discharged.
Wilber was booked at the Steuben County Jail on several preliminary charges. The case remains under investigation.

On 12/14/2024 just after 6:30 pm, Steuben County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the intersection of CR 850 E and Metz Rd in rural York Township for a reported shooting incident. The female victim contacted Steuben County Sheriff’s Communications stating that she had just been shot at while inside her vehicle at a residence in the 8500 block of East Metz Rd.
When initial responding deputies arrived, they located the victim who as uninjured. The victim’s vehicle also appeared to have damage from the alleged gun shot. Sheriff’s detectives were called to the scene to assist in the investigation. The female victim was able to identify the shooter as 25-year-old Skylar Alan Wilber of Angola, IN. During an initial interview, the victim indicated that Wilber had asked the victim for a ride and when she arrived at the residence, Wilber allegedly came outside upset and fired a handgun at the victim’s vehicle.
The victim then fled the area and contacted the Sheriff’s Office. A subsequent search warrant was obtained for the property where the shooting had allegedly had occurred. Due to the circumstances, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Special Response Tactical Team (SRT) was activated to execute the search warrant. Just prior to the execution of the search warrant, a male subject exited the residence and surrendered without incident just after 8:00 pm. The male was identified as the alleged shooter, Skylar Wilber.
Wilber was taken into custody and a search of the residence was conducted. The search of the property ultimately yielded suspected Marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and evidence indicating a firearm had been discharged. Following an interview with Sheriff’s detectives, Wilber was booked into the Steuben County Jail on the following preliminary charges.

The case still remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office. Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene were the Orland Town Marshal’s Office, Hamilton Town Marshal’s Office, and the Auburn Police Emergency Response Tactical (ERT) Team.
