FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Allen County Coroner has identified a man who was struck and killed on Crescent and State Thursday morning.
Police were called around 6 a.m. and shut down the roadway for the investigation. The Fort Wayne Police Department says that the driver is being cooperative in the investigation.
Initially, the FWPD released the following:
The Fort Wayne Police Department is investigating a fatal crash at the intersection of Crescent & State Blvd involving a pedestrian. A TRAA ambulance was approaching the intersection at the time of the crash. Medical care was immediately provided, but unfortunately the victim was pronounced deceased on the scene. The victim was in a wheelchair on the roadway at the time of the crash. The driver is cooperative and assisting in the investigation. Investigators are reviewing surveillance video from businesses in the area and from the dash camera on the ambulance. From that information investigators have ruled out speed as a factor.
State Blvd was closed during the investigation but has been reopened. The investigation is being assisted by the Allen Coroners Officer, FWPD Air Support, TRAA, and the FWPD Fatal Accident Crash Team.
The Allen County Coroner identified the man who died as 46-year-old David Cullen Jr.
The following was released:
On December 5, 2024, at about 0615 hours the Allen County Coroner’s Office was notified of a fatal motor vehicle crash on East State Boulevard at Cresent Avenue, Fort Wayne, Indiana. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The victim was identified as David Lewis Cullen Jr., male, White, 46 years of age, from Fort Wayne, Indiana. Notification has been made to the legal next of kin.
The Cause of Death is Blunt Force Injuries due to Motor Vehicle versus Pedestrian Crash and the Manner of Death is Accident. David Lewis Cullen Jr. is the 40th motor vehicle fatality for Allen County in 2024. The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
