Kroger presented a six-figure contribution On Thursday to Community Harvest Food Bank. The donation came during the ribbon-cutting celebration for Kroger’s latest investment in Fort Wayne. The event marked the completion of $3 million dollars in enhancements inside the Kroger at 6002 St. Joe Center Road.
Customers will first appreciate the bright and colorful new décor, new displays and the expanded selection of products made possible by these upgrades, even store-made popcorn. The changes embody Kroger’s commitment to offering fresh, affordable food in inviting and convenient surroundings.
“This investment represents our commitment to be outstanding in price, selection and service for our customers in Fort Wayne,” said Kroger division president Colleen Juergensen. “Today’s celebration is part of a year-long statewide plan to present more stores where Hoosiers love to shop and associates love to work. And with Thanksgiving approaching, we are grateful to everyone in northeastern Indiana who comes to us for the ingredients of great holiday memories.”
Andrea Robinson, Economic Development Administrator for the City of Fort Wayne, praised Kroger as “a vital part of our neighborhoods, not only as a trusted source for quality groceries and essential goods but also as a significant contributor to the economic growth and well-being of our region.”
The celebration served as the setting for Kroger’s latest hunger relief donation. The grocer presented a check for $100,000 to Community Harvest Food Bank. Carmen Cumberland, President and CEO of Community Harvest, said, “We are grateful to Kroger for supporting our Farm to Food Bank program again this year, helping provide over 350,000 pounds of fresh produce to our neighbors in need.
Fresh produce is essential to a balanced diet, but for many, the cost puts it out of reach. Thanks to this donation, we can ensure everyone in our community has access to the healthy food they deserve.”
Kroger’s contribution to Community Harvest is an element of the grocer’s Zero Hunger | Zero Waste plan, its commitment to eliminate hunger in the communities Kroger serves. Since the plan’s inception in 2017, Kroger has given more than $1 billion to hunger relief services across the country, which includes 582 million pounds of surplus fresh food rescued and donated to feed Americans in need. Through Kroger’s partnerships, the Zero Hunger | Zero Waste plan has had a role in the delivery of more than 3 billion meals to serve struggling families throughout the year.
