NOBLE CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – A man who was convicted in the 1975 cold case murder of 17-year-old Laurel Mitchell has been sentenced to life in prison.
Fred Bandy Jr. will have the possibility of parole as he was sentenced in accordance with Indiana state law from 1975 that did not include life without parole sentences.
He and John Lehman were arrested in February 2023 for the murder, with Lehman pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit murder.

NOBLE CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – A man has been convicted of killing 17-year-old Laurel Mitchell in 1975 in North Webster. Fred Bandy Jr. was arrested in February 2023 with John Lehman for the girl’s murder. Police said that technological advancements allowed them to make the connections in the case.
Bandy will be sentenced October 22nd and Lehman has a hearing Friday after agreeing to a plea deal in August. He will plead guilty to conspiracy to commit murder. Mitchell drowned in the Elkhart River and her autopsy showed evidence that she struggled.
