DEKALB CO. Ind. (ADAMS) – The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department says that one person was hospitalized following a crash over the weekend.
According to a press release, a 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 was heading east on U.S. 6, preparing to turn left onto County Road 19 just before 3 p.m. on Saturday. The Ram needed to yield to oncoming traffic for a safe turn.
Behind the Ram, a 2016 Kia Forte was also traveling east on U.S. 6. The driver of the Kia was distracted while reaching for something on the floor and didn’t notice the Ram come to a stop.
As a result, the Kia rear-ended the Dodge Ram at an estimated speed of 55 miles per hour, as reported in a press release.
Deputy Henry Hilger arrived to investigate and assess the injuries. The driver of the Dodge Ram mentioned hitting their head during the collision but declined to be examined by EMS.
The driver of the Kia Forte reported lower back pain and numbness in their legs, along with abrasions on both arms. They were taken to a hospital in Fort Wayne for treatment.
There were no other passengers in either vehicle at the time of the accident. Both vehicles incurred damages estimated at $10,000 each.
