FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – A fast-acting officer with the FWPD is being praised today after footage was released of him rescuing a three-year-old from an above-ground pool.
The Fort Wayne Police Department says that the little boy, who is autistic, was reported missing. Drowning is one of the leading causes of death in people with autism, according to the National Autism Association.
In footage from Officer E. Myers’ body cam, you can hear the little boy before Myers can see him on September 22. Further in the footage, Myers is running to get the boy whose hands and feet are just above the water of a backyard pool.
Myers was able to quickly get the child out of the pool and to safety.
The FWPD released the following along with the footage:
A three year old autistic child went missing on September 22nd, 2024 at roughly 2:20 pm in the area of 6700 Sullivans Court. The Fort Wayne Police Department was called to the scene to help locate the frightened missing child. Officers searched the residence and the surrounding area looking for the child. Officer E. Myers was able to locate and rescue the child from drowning, in an above-ground pool. The rescue was caught on Officer Myers’s body cam.
