FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – A 35-year-old man, Jamar Barnes, is facing new charges after police say he tried to solicit his girlfriend’s 15-year-old roommate.
Barnes was already in the Allen County Jail on unrelated charges when he was arrested for the incident in April where the girl told police he had locked her out of the home and tried to convince her to have sex with him. He told police he knew her age.
The Fort Wayne Police Department released the following:
On April 07, 2024, a fifteen (15) years old minor summoned the police to her residence after being locked out by Jamar Barnes, the boyfriend of a roommate. Upon arrival, the minor disclosed that Mr. Barnes had allegedly solicited her to have sex. She allowed the officer(s) to view the text messages sent to her by Mr. Barnes. When confronted, Mr. Barnes admitted that he knew her age because he has a child similar in age. Detective Michelle Brown, a member of the FWPD Crimes Against Persons Section (CAPS), was assigned as the lead detective. She determined the cellphone that sent the messages to the minor belonged to Mr. Barnes. He was recently confined at the Allen County jail on an unrelated matter. Detective Brown met with and arrested Mr. Barnes this morning at the Allen County Jail for Child Solicitation. Detective Brown was assisted by the FWPD Digital Forensic Unit, the Indiana Department of Child Service-Allen County and the Dr. Bill Lewis Center For Children.
