FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The death of a toddler in Fort Wayne in January has been ruled a homicide.
The Allen County Coroner’s office says Dailoni Daniels was found shot in the head in bed on Saturday, January 27th just shy of his second birthday. His father, Travell Daniels, was charged with neglect of a dependent resulting in death and has not been charged with additional charges yet. He told police his Glock 23 was under his pillow when he brought his son into his bed to sleep and says he heard a gunshot about ten minutes after he left the room.
The Allen County Coroner’s Office released the following:
On Saturday, January 27, 2024, at about 21:10 hours, the Allen County Coroner’s Office was notified of a shooting in the 2900 block of Shawnee Drive, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The victim was transported to a local hospital and was later pronounced deceased.
The victim was identified as DaiLoni Edward Hollis Daniels, male, Black, 23 months old from Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Notification has been made to the next of kin. The Cause of Death is Gunshot Wound of Head, and the Manner of Death is Homicide.
DaiLoni Edward Hollis Daniels is the 14th Homicide for Allen County in 2024.
The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
