BROWARD CO., Fla. (ADAMS) – New details are surfacing after a seven-year-old girl was killed while on a trip to a Broward County beach.
Police say Sloan Mattingly was killed and her nine-year-old brother, Maddox, was hurt when they were buried underneath a pile of sand Tuesday afternoon.
The siblings were digging a roughly six-foot deep hole at Lauderdale-by-the-Sea Beach afternoon when it collapsed.

The children and their parents were visiting from Indiana. The girl died at the scene, while the boy was treated at a nearby hospital.
According to WANE-TV, Sloan Mattingly was a student at Lafayette Meadows Elementary School in Roanoke. Her parents, Jason and Theresa spoke to WANE and said Sloan was always smiling and full of love.
