ALLEN CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – A 14-year-old was Allen County’s first homicide of 2024. The coroner says that Tra’Quon Dashon Hurmon died after being shot in the head Friday in New Haven. Police were called to an apartment complex off Seiler Road around 1 a.m. according to reports.
And now a 13-year-old is in custody in connection to the homicide after an investigation involving the New Haven Police Department, Indiana State Police, and the Allen County Sheriff’s Department.
New Haven detectives, along with Indiana State Police and the Allen County Sheriff’s Department, spoke with several witnesses Friday and were trying to find a person of interest. New Haven Police Chief James Krueger confirmed a 13-year-old boy was taken into custody Sunday, and no further details will be released at this time.

On January 12th, 2024, at about 02:00 hours the Allen County Coroner’s Office was notified of a fatal shooting located in the 10600 block of Seiler Road, in New Haven, Indiana. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene.
An autopsy has been completed and notification has been made to the next of kin of Tra’Quon Dashon Hurmon, male, Black, 14 years of age, from Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Cause of Death is Gunshot Wound of Head, and the Manner of Death is Homicide. Tra’Quon Dashon Hurmon is the 1st Homicide for Allen County in 2024. The incident remains under investigation by the New Haven Police Department, the Indiana State Police, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
