FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – An investigation Thursday afternoon caused a school to go into lockdown and preceded three arrests.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Department says that three people were involved in some kind of altercation off Muldoon Road close to Wayne High School. When an officer from the school approached the parties involved a gun could be seen, according to police.
Around 2:53 pm., the school was placed on lockdown. A short time later, three people were arrested in the incident. None other those involved were students or employees with the school.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Department released the following:
On January 11, 2024, at approximately 2:53 P.M., an Allen County Sheriff’s Department Officer working at Wayne High School was alerted about a confrontation in the parking lot. The officer was told one of the people involved in the incident brandished a handgun. The officer informed Administrators and they put the school on lockdown. The officer went to the parking lot to investigate the incident.
The officer began speaking with the parties involved and three adult males fled the scene in a vehicle. A different Sheriff’s Department Officer located the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on Muldoon Road. A handgun was located when officers searched the suspect vehicle. All three men were taken into custody and charged with different offenses.
It should be noted, none of the three men were students or faculty members at the school. One of the men was said to have a relationship with a Wayne student, which is why there were at the school.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Indiana State Police.
