DEKALB CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office says that a teenager died and two others were injured in a crash Saturday evening.
According to a press release, the vehicle they were in was traveling northbound on County Road 23 just north of County Road 50 Saturday at 6:12 p.m.
Police say the driver attempted to pass in a no-passing zone coming into a curve on the road. The vehicle then left the roadway on the north side and struck a tree.
Fire and Emergency Response Teams attempted life-saving measures on the 15-year-old front-seat passenger, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The teen was later identified as Sanad Abdullah Abu Saleh, a student at East Noble High School.
The driver was later identified as 18-year-old Ameer Yasser Ahmed. Ahmed and a 16-year-old passenger, Thabit Saleh Thabit Yahya, were taken to a nearby hospital for general injuries.
The DeKalb Co. Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Auburn Police Department, Garrett Fire Department, Parkview EMS, Dekalb County Coroner’s Office and C. Noels Towing.
The crash is still under investigation.
