UPDATE (October 5, 2023):
Officials with the Fort Wayne Police Department say that arrests have been made in the death of a man who was found in the Maumee River.
The FWPD says that Nasir Owens and Dimitrius Walker are facing preliminary charges in the homicide of 19-year-old Austin Seiman.
A kayaker found his body on Thursday of last week. The coroner later determined that he had been shot to death. Police didn’t specify what evidence was linking the two suspects to his death but said that Owens and Walker were both charged with murder and arson.

On 10/04/2023 the Fort Wayne Police Department arrested two subjects in connection to the homicide of 19yo Austin Seiman. The Homicide Unit arrested 18yo Nasir Owens and 20yo Dimitrius Walker for murder and arson. The Homicide Unit conducted the investigation and were assisted in the arrests by the Gang and Violent Crime Unit, the Vice and Narcotics Unit, the Aerial Support Unit, the Uniform Operations Division and the Allen County Prosecutors Office. UPDATE (October 1, 2023):
The Allen County Coroner says that a man found in the Maumee River last week had been shot. He was identified as Austin Michael Seiman, 19, from Fort Wayne.
Fort Wayne police and fire officials pulled his body from the river on Thursday around 5:30 p.m. near the 800 block of Tecumseh Street after a kayaker reported it.
The coroner ruled Seiman’s death a homicide and determined multiple gunshot wounds were the cause.
His death is still under investigation.
The Allen County Coroner’s Office released the following:
The autopsy has been completed and notification has been made to the next of kin for the individual found deceased within the Maumee River, 800 block of Tecumseh, in Fort Wayne, on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at approximately 17:26 hours. The decedent was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Fort Wayne Fire Department.
He has been positively identified as Austin Michael Seiman a male, White, 19 years of age from Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Austin Michael Seiman’s Cause of Death has been determined to be Multiple Gunshot Wounds, and the Manner of Death is Homicide.
Austin Michael Seiman is the 19th Homicide for Fort Wayne and Allen County in 2023.
The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – A body has been recovered from the Maumee River in Fort Wayne after it was discovered by a kayaker around 5 p.m. Thursday.
The Fort Wayne Police Department and FWFD crews removed the body on a stretcher and reportedly said it appeared to have been a young male.
His death remains under investigation. No name has been released.
The Fort Wayne Police Department released the following:
On Thursday September 28th, 2023, at approximately 5:00 pm, a kayaker discovered what appeared to be a deceased body on the southside of the Maumee River, around the 800 block of Tecumseh Street. Fort Wayne Police Department officers were dispatched to that area. Upon the officers’ arrival, a floating body was discovered, and soon after the Fort Wayne Fire Department confirmed the body to be deceased on the scene.
Fort Wayne Police Department, Fort Wayne Fire Department, and Department of Natural Resources, and the Allen County Coroner were called to the scene of the investigation. Fort Wayne Fire Department’s dive team was utilized.
