FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The American Farmland Trust and the Farmers Market Coalition has announced that YLNI Farmers Market has placed 1st in Indiana in the 2023 America’s Farmers Market Celebration.
Since 2008, the America’s Farmers Market Celebration (AFMC) has highlighted the important role farmers markets play in communities across the nation while celebrating the vendors, staff, and volunteers that make markets happen week in and week out.
The YLNI Farmers Market placed 1st in Indiana, 3rd in the Midwest, and 6th in the Nation.
Representatives released the following:
For 19 years now the YLNI Farmers Market in partnership with the History Center has been a staple on Barr Street during the summer months. From their humble beginnings in 2004 with just a handful of vendors, only 6 Saturdays, and a few hundred customers the YLNI Farmers Market has grown to host the market for 22 Saturdays with an average of 180 vendors each week and bringing thousands of customers to downtown Fort Wayne.
“We did it, Fort Wayne! We have kept Fort Wayne as the home of the #1 market in the state,” says Market Manager Ashley Wagner. “We wouldn’t have a market without the vendors. I think it’s their contagious smiles and personalities that draw people into this market. Our customers know better than anyone the type of community that our vendors have created at this market, and to be a part of that community…it’s just awesome; there’s nothing that this family of vendors cannot do. Thank you to our customers for recognizing the hard work and dedication of our vendors. They truly deserve it. There’s no better place for the #1 market of the state than Fort Wayne.”
The YLNI Farmers Market is a producer-only market, meaning that our vendors personally make or grow the products they sell. Every vendor is local, coming from Allen or surrounding counties. The market is run by a small staff and volunteers who are passionate about engaging our community and supporting YLNI’s mission by creating an environment for community, professional and social engagement.
