STEUBEN CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – A motorcyclist was flown to a hospital Sunday after an SUV crashed into him at a rural Steuben County intersection on Sunday.
Steuben County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a two-vehicle crash just after 6 p.m. in rural Scott Township.
Officers at the scene found an injured man in a grassy area near the intersection where the crash happened.
Police said the roadway was dry and the weather clear when the crash occurred and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
It remains under investigation.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office released the following:
The initial investigation revealed 51-year-old Tina Leep from Michigan was driving an SUV on County Road 300 North and stopped before continuing into the intersection with State Road 827. That’s when the SUV hit a motorcycle that was also driving through the intersection from SR 827. Google Maps shows there is a stop sign at CR 300 N and not on SR 827.
On 09/03/2023 just after 6:00 pm, Steuben County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the intersection of SR 827
and CR 300 N in rural Scott Township for a report of a 2 vehicle crash involving a motorcycle. Upon the arrival of
initial responding units, an injured male crash victim was located laying in a grassy area near the intersection.
Initial crash scene investigation indicated that a gray 2011 GMC Terrain driven by 51 year old Tina R. Leep of
Redford, MI was stopped at the intersection of CR 300 N and SR 827 facing eastbound. The second vehicle
involved was a black 2002 Suzuki GSXR600 motorcycle driven by 20 year old Allen T. Jones of Clayton, IN. The
motorcycle was traveling southbound on SR 827 approaching the intersection of CR 300 N.
As Jones approached the intersection, Leep made a left turn onto SR 327 into the path of the oncoming
motorcycle causing both vehicles to collide in the intersection. Jones was thrown from the motorcycle as a
result of the collision. Jones suffered apparent lacerations and abrasions and was flown to Parkview Regional
Medical Center in Fort Wayne, IN by the Samaritan helicopter. Jones was wearing a helmet at the time of the
crash.
The roadway was dry and the weather clear when the crash occurred and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
The crash still remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office. Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene were
Steuben County EMS and the Fremont Fire Department.
