MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. (ADAMS) – At least eight dogs have died while being transported to a K-9 training facility in Indiana. More than a dozen German Shepards were being driven from the Chicago O’Hare International Airport when the AC unit keeping them cool stopped working.
The driver was unaware of the failure and got stuck in a two-hour traffic delay, causing the temperature to rapidly rise and the dogs to go into “heat-related medical distress.”
The Lake Station Police Department offered their “thoughts and prayers” to those affected, calling the incident a “freak event.”
