FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – A Fort Wayne firefighter is recovering after suffering minor injuries battling a fire early this morning. Crews were called to a commercial building south of downtown in the 3100 block of Broadway near Thompson Avenue around 12:45 a.m.
The fire was on the first floor, and firefighters found no one inside that floor or any apartments on the second floor.
The cause is under investigation.

Shortly after midnight, Fort Wayne firefighters responded to a reported fire in a commercial building located at 3138 Broadway. First arriving units found a large volume of fire on the first floor of the structure. Firefighters worked for approximately 45 minutes to extinguish the blaze. Firefighters were able to get to the apartments above the retail area on the second floor to search for trapped occupants but found none. One firefighter sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Firefighters were assisted by FWPD, NCE, NIPSCO, AEP and TRAA.
