DEKALB CO., Ind. (ADAMS) – The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department says that a semi fire was to blame for traffic being shut down on I-69 overnight.
Officials said that the interstate was closed near the 340-mile marker around 1:30 Monday morning.
The driver reportedly pulled the truck over to the shoulder after noticing smoke. According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, when the tire went flat the fire traveled to the trailer.
It took about an hour to put out the blaze. The driver was not hurt.
The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department released the following:
A semi-tractor trailer was traveling North on Interstate 69 near the 340 mile marker. A tire on the trailer became flat at some point while traveling on the interstate. The driver realized smoke was coming from the trailer so he pulled over to the shoulder. The trailer then caught fire from the tire burning from becoming flat. The driver unhooked the semi-tractor from the trailer. The driver of the semi was not injured. I69 was shut down for approximately an hour so that the fire could be extinguished.
