INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (ADAMS) – A new state law requires people to stay at least 25 feet away from police officers who are doing any duty.
State Representative Wendy McNamara of Evansville introduced the bill and says Indiana is among the first states in the country to give officers a buffer zone.
She says an increase has been seen in the public getting “more and more violent with people who aren’t necessarily involved in the situation at all.”
Violating the law is punishable by up to 60 days in jail and up to $500 in fines.
