The Allen County Coroner has identified a woman who police say was shot and killed when she opened the front door of her apartment.
The coroner says that Joyce A. Moore, 60, dies of a gunshot wound to her head. Her death was ruled as Homicide.
The Allen County Coroner’s Office released the following:
On Wednesday, February 22nd, 2023, the Allen County Coroner’s Office was notified of a shooting in the 6000 block of Bunt Drive, in Fort Wayne. First responders pronounced an individual deceased at the scene.
The individual was identified as Joyce A. Moore, 60, female, White of Fort Wayne.
Notification has been made to the next of kin and an autopsy have been completed. The Cause of Death has been determined to be Gunshot Wound of Head and the Manner of Death is ruled a Homicide.
Joyce A. Moore is the 6th Homicide for Allen County for 2023.
This incident is under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
25-year-old Eric Underwood-McCarrol was arrested a day later. Reportedly, he is now facing a charge of Murder.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne police say a woman is dead after opening the door to her own apartment on Wednesday morning.
According to the FWPD, around 11:30 a.m., the victim and her husband were both home at their apartment on the 6000 block of Bunt Drive. Police say the woman opened the door and was shot. The perpetrator then reportedly took off on foot.
Officers continue to investigate but appear to have a person of interest in the case. The woman has not been identified yet.
The FWPD released the following:
On February 22, 2023, at 11:30am, the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to the 6000 block of Bunt Dr. after several people called 911 reporting hearing gunshots. Officers arrived and located one female adult inside an apartment who had been pronounced deceased by Traa medics.
While officers were investigating, they received word that an adult male had arrived at the victim’s residence at which time the victim opened the door and was then shot. The victim’s husband was also in the apartment but not injured at the time of the shooting. The unknown suspect then fled on foot . Fort Wayne K-9 Officer’s and his K-9 conducted a track but was unable to locate a suspect at this time.
Crime Scene Technicians are currently processing the scene, searching for and collecting evidence. Detectives are going door to door trying to locate and witnesses and/or video surveillance.

There are currently no suspects nor suspect descriptions.
The incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
The cause and manner of death as well as the identity of the decedent will be released by the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
