FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Fire Department says that smoking materials that were not properly put out caused a mobile home fire near then Glenbrook mall. Crews responded on Thursday just after 6 p.m. to 409 Edgewood Avenue. They found smoke and flames coming from one home and worried that it could spread to two other homes close by. However, crews were able to get control of the blaze and keep it from spreading.
Two people had made it out of the burning mobile home and no one else was found. The Red Cross is now assisting the residents of the mobile home that suffered heavy fire damage, as well as moderate damage from smoke and water.

Fort Wayne Fire Department was dispatched on a structure fire Near Edgewood Ave and Spy run. Battalion Chief 10 on arrival found a well involved single wide mobile home fire with possible exposure to two other trailers on either side. First 2 engines on arrival were able to quickly bring the mobile home fire under control with out any damage to the other adjacent structures. Both occupants of the mobile home had escaped prior to fire department arrival. A thorough search of the structure was also conducted with nothing else found. Investigation revealed improperly discarded smoking material had caught some combustibles to catch fire. FWFD was assisted by FWPD for traffic control on a busy road. Also assisting was TRAA, AEP and NIPSCO. Red Cross was taking care of the occupants.
