FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne police say that a man is in custody following a standoff at a local hotel.
Officers responded Friday morning to the Suburban Inn off Coliseum Boulevard just after 9 a.m. when a woman called 911.
FWPD officers and a SWAT initially responded around 9:11 a.m. A woman was able to get out and meet the police. She said her boyfriend had attacked her and that he was still in the room. Her boyfriend, Robert Even refused to come out of his room voluntarily, according to a press release.
A chemical agent was eventually deployed after some hotel rooms were evacuated. Officers made entry into the room placing Even in custody around 2:30 p.m.

The Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a Domestic Battery at the Suburban Inn today (Friday) at roughly 9:10 am. The victim called police advising that she had been battered by her boyfriend, Robert Even. The victim was able to meet police outside the hotel upon their arrival. The suspect, Robert Even refused to come out voluntarily of his hotel room after numerous attempts were made by police to get him to exit. The Emergency Services Team, Crisis Response Team, and the Air Support Unit were paged to assist with the incident.
After the Specialty Units arrival more attempts were made to get Robert to exit his room safely on his own. The additional attempts failed. The hotel was partially evacuated. A chemical agent was deployed and EST made entry into the room placing Robert in custody without incident.
This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
Arrested: Robert Even, 30 years of age
Preliminary Charges: Domestic Battery (Misd), Domestic battery with a prior Conviction (Felony), and Strangulation (Felony)
