WASHINGTON D.C. (ADAMS) – About three-dozen Black churches will share $4 million dollars to help renovate and preserve houses of worship across the U.S.
The grants will help churches in 22 states, including Indiana, that are often some of the oldest buildings in their communities.
The grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund was announced as the nation observed Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The 35 churches are recipients of the first round of the Fund’s $20 million dollar Preserving Black Churches grants ranging from $50,000 to $200,000, funded by the Lilly Foundation.
