FREMONT, Ind. (ADAMS) – A burglary suspect in Angola picked the wrong house to try and break into.
Police say troopers arrested 25-year-old Joshua Enos yesterday morning after he tried to break into a state trooper’s home. A neighbor first saw him, then called the trooper.
The Indiana State Police say that trooper fought with Enos, and eventually got him into handcuffs. Enos is now facing a slew of charges.
Indiana State Police released the following:
Wednesday night shortly before 8:00pm, troopers from the Fort Wayne Post and deputies from the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the 4600 block of West Nevada Mills Road to investigate a residential disturbance. The caller advised that an off-duty state trooper was involved in a physical altercation with a person that allegedly attempted to break into the trooper’s residence.
Officers arriving on the scene shortly after the 911 call found off-duty Trooper George Youpel with an adult white male restrained in handcuffs, and broken windows on the trooper’s home.
The suspect, identified as Joshua Ray Enos, allegedly broke out several bedroom windows at the home. A neighbor that first observed the attempted break-in, reportedly challenged Enos verbally, at which time Enos was alleged to have become physically aggressive towards that neighbor. Trooper Youpel came out of his house and took action to intervene and protect his neighbor. Enos is then alleged to have become combative with the trooper, and after a lengthy physical altercation- the trooper was able to gain control and get Enos in handcuffs.
Indiana State Police detectives arriving on scene assumed the investigation. Enos was transported from the scene by Steuben County EMS personnel to Cameron Hospital for medical evaluation. After being cleared by medical staff, Enos was then transported to the Steuben County jail, where he was booked into custody on several related charges.
