FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Fort Wayne Fire Department says one person was taken to the hospital following a fire in Waynedale on Wednesday. Crews were called to the 6500 block of Liberty Drive off Bluffton Road around 1:40 a.m.
Crews arrived at the one-story home and found it fully engulfed with flames. A person inside was able to self-evacuate. However, medics had to take them to a hospital for minor smoke inhalation, according to FWFD.
It took firefighters about 15 minutes to get the fire under control. Hidden fires caused firefighters to be on the scene for an extended time. The home suffered heavy fire, water, and smoke damage. No firefighters were injured while working on the fire.
The Fort Wayne Fire Department was assisted by TRAA,FWPD, AEP and NCE. FWFD officials say the cause remains under investigation.
