FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne police say two people were injured in a shooting over the weekend in a common area of the Westland Mall close to Mitchell’s Sports Bar, off West Jefferson.
Police say it happened around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday after some kind of altercation.
A woman that was shot was taken to a hospital from the scene and another man showed up at the hospital later. Police say the person or persons responsible fled the scene and they are asking for tips.
FWPD officials released the following:
The Fort Wayne Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred August 27th (Saturday), at 1:25am outside the common area of Westland Mall located at the 6100 block of Jefferson Blvd. Preliminary information indicates that two small groups of people exited the common area of the mall and immediately upon exiting the building a physical altercation ensued between the groups. All the business of the mall were closed at this time. During the altercation gunshots were fired and an uninvolved adult female was struck. The female was rendered aid at the scene and transported to a local hospital in non-life threatening condition. The perpetrators fled the scene after the shooting. A short time later, an adult male arrived at a local hospital with gunshot wounds related to this incident. The adult male was in non-life threatening condition.
