FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – One of Fort Wayne’s parks may never be the same after June’s strong storms, according to reporting from WANE-TV.
Allen County Parks supervisor Jeff Baxter said the damage from the derecho that cut across northern Indiana a few months ago caused deep and widespread damage at Fox Island Park.
He figures the storm knocked down a thousand trees and left hundreds of others severely damaged.
The park has been closed since the storms, and Baxter says it could be months before it is safe enough to reopen to visitors.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – It’s the latest measure of just how powerful June’s storms in Fort Wayne were. Allen County leaders say they don’t know when crews will be able to clear all of the damage at Fox Island County Park.
The popular park has been closed since June’s derecho. The park’s Natalie Haley says they’ve had to bring in a drone to survey the damage. She says there are over a thousand downed trees, many of them blocking trails and access points.
Some of the cleanup hold up is because Fox Island is a nature preserve, crews need to be especially careful in how to clear the storm damage.
