FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne Fire Department officials say that five dogs perished in a fire early Sunday morning on the city’s northwest side.
Crews were called just after 4 a.m. to Weststate Court. When they arrived they found smoke and flames coming from a converted garage. Crews were able to quickly put out the fire and check for anyone inside.
FWFD officials said they searched the house and found no residents. Sadly though, five dogs were found dead inside the home. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

FWFD crews responded to a house fire overnight in the 2500 block of Weststate Court to find fire coming from a converted garage area on the end of the home. Fire crews quickly knocked down the fire and searched the home for any occupants. There was no one inside the home, but 5 dogs were found. All had expired. Firefighters thoroughly checked the home for any hidden fire and cleared smoke from the interior. No injuries were reported. FWFD was assisted by NIPSCO, AEP and TRAA.
