FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Two people were able to escape a burning home on the 7500 block of Antebellum Blvd off East State.
FWFD officials say the flames broke out on the first floor while they were sleeping just after 11:45 p.m. Monday night.
Fire officials say the two residents got out but a cat perished in the fire.
The home was badly damaged.
The specific cause is still under investigation.

FWFD responded to a reported house fire, Upon the first units arrival, they found smoke and fire coming from the rear of the structure. The fire was extinguished on the first floor but it extended to the second floor and got into the attic and was extinguished. There were two adults at home and were awakened by the smoke and self evacuated, there was also a cat that did not make it out. The fire is still under investigation. The FWFD was assisted by FWPD, TRAA, AEP, NIPSCO, and NCE.
