FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Lutheran Health Network employee blood drives held at its hospitals during December helped to potentially save more than 300 lives.
Bluffton Regional Medical Center, Dukes Memorial, Dupont, Kosciusko Community, Lutheran and Lutheran Downtown hospitals all partnered with the American Red Cross to hold blood drives in response to a national shortage of donations, which has impacted the blood supply throughout the country.
The multi-site drives saw 118 staff at the locations provide 112 units of blood, which the Red Cross estimates will help to save the lives of 336 people.
“While our hospitals have managed our blood supply to meet patient care needs throughout the shortage, we were glad to do our part to contribute to the need,” Brandon Duttaroy, regional laboratory director for Lutheran Health Network. “We are proud of each employee who selflessly rolled up their sleeves to help while the national blood supply is critically low.”
