The Senate is paving the way for Congress to keep the nation from going into default. A vote is expected next week to raise the debt limit. The last hurdle happened yesterday when 14 Republicans joined every Democrat to advance a bill by a simple majority vote.
While Jussie Smollett’s defense team is planning to appeal his conviction. His lawyer said he was disappointed in the verdict. The former “Empire” actor was found guilty of staging his own racist and homophobic attack in Chicago in 2019. Smollett faces up to three years in prison, but most legal experts say he’ll likely receive probation and community service.
