FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – As winter approaches, COVID is on the rise again, averaging more than 100-thousand cases a day with six states leading the way in hospitalizations.
Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Illinois and New York account for 35-percent of our nation’s population but, over the past month, 60-percent of COVID cases.
CDC Director Rochelle Walensky says while there are growing concerns about the Omicron variant, the Delta strain continues to pose the biggest threat. She says the best protection against COVID-19 is to get vaccinated and boosted.
Around half of the state is now under the highest risk on the state’s map tracking COVID spread.
Only around half of Indiana residents are fully vaccinated.
