FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – Fort Wayne police say that a man has life-threatening injuries following a crash Thursday evening on Lima Road. It happened near Ludwig around 7 p.m.
Police think he may have suffered a medical emergency prior to the wreck.
He was taken in serious condition to the hospital but doctors downgraded him to critical condition.
FWPD officials released the following:
The Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a possible hit and run accident with injuries. Officers were advised that there was one vehicle on Lima Road that was occupied by an adult male and it appeared as though the air bags were deployed.
Upon Officers arrival on scene they located a passenger car sitting on Lima Road and it was in fact occupied by an adult male that was unresponsive at this time. Officers were able to determine that this was not in fact a hit and run and that there had been 2 other vehicles involved and there were no injuries in those vehicles.
The Driver was transported to a local hospital with Non-Life Threatening injuries and a short time later after arriving at the Hospital Officers were advised that the driver had been downgraded to having Life Threatening Injuries.
At this time Fatal Accident Team members were called to the scene to investigate this incident. Early indications are that the driver may have suffered a Medical Emergency that may have contributed to the cause of this accident
It should be noted that the far right 2 southbound lanes of Lima Road in front of Meijers are closed during this investigation and will opened as soon as they are completed with this investigation and the roadway is clear.
This incident is being investigated by the Fort Wayne Police Department, and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
