AUBURN, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Indiana State Police say they have completed a six-month-long investigation involving an alleged sexual molestation of an Auburn child. The investigation culminated yesterday evening with the arrest of an Edgerton, Ohio man.
Indiana State Police released the following:
ISP detectives became involved in the matter back in March of this year, after being contacted by the Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) reporting allegations of sexual misconduct involving a child. During the course of this investigation information was discovered alleging that Steven George Gilbert, 49, of Edgerton, Ohio, had been engaging in acts of sexual abuse with an 11yr old Auburn child (who is now 14yrs old). The sexual abuse is alleged to have occurred on a routine basis for approximately two years during a timeframe from 2017-2019, until the child was approximately 13 years of age.
Upon review of the completed investigation, the DeKalb County Prosecutor filed for and was granted an arrest warrant (issued yesterday August 26th) by the DeKalb County Superior Court, ordering the arrest of:
Arrested: Steven George Gilbert, 49, Edgerton, Ohio
*Charge: Child Molestation, a Level 1 Felony offense under IC 35-42-4-3(a).
Through coordination and assistance with the Williams County (Ohio) Sheriff’s Office, deputies were able to locate Gilbert last evening at his Edgerton residence. He was taken into custody without incident and booked into custody at the Williams County Jail, were he will remain held awaiting extradition back to Indiana. Once back in Indiana, he will be held in the DeKalb County Jail with no bond, pending a hearing on the matter.
Assisting in this case was the Indiana DCS, the Dr. Bill Lewis Child Advocacy Center, and the DeKalb County Prosecutors Office.
