BUTLER, Ind. (ADAMS) – The Indiana State Police say that they continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shootings that occurred at 5458 CR 22 near Butler, IN on Thursday, August 5, 2021. At the conclusion of the investigation, all information will be turned over to the Dekalb County Prosecutor for review.
The deceased male has been identified as Samuel King, 36 of Butler, IN. The other adult male and adult female remain in the hospital.
Indiana State Police released the following on Friday:
The Indiana State Police is investigating a shooting that happened last night (Thursday, August 5) in rural Dekalb County near Butler, IN where three people were shot and transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
At approximately 8:47 p.m. on August 5, 2021, the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of shots fired at a residence in the 5000 block of CR 22 in Dekalb County. When deputies arrived, they found two adult males and an adult female suffering from gunshot wounds and began life-saving measures until paramedics arrived.
The two males and female were transported to Parkview North in Ft. Wayne, IN due to their injuries. One male was pronounced deceased at the hospital. An autopsy is scheduled for later today.
At the time, DeKalb County officials released the following:
On 5th of August at approximately 08:47 p.m. DeKalb County Deputies, Waterloo Marshals Deputies, Auburn Police Department and the Butler Police Department responded to a shooting incident in the 5400 block of CR 22 Butler IN. A women was found near the scene at a neighbor’s house with blood on her hands and face.
Officers continued to the 5400 block of CR 22 and found two males suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers secured the scene and called for medics. Officers began life-saving measures until paramedics arrives. Three people, two males and one female, were transported to the Parkview Regional Hospital with serious injuries. One of the males involved died at the Hospital.
State Police Crime Scene and Detectives were called to the scene. DeKalb County Prosecutors office also was notified to assist with search warrant applications.
The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and the Indiana State Police will continue the ongoing investigation into the shooting.
