Flames spread to a neighboring home as crews fought freezing temperatures and the flames Friday morning, on Huestis Avenue. After being pushed back by flames, crews made entry and found two people dead.
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (ADAMS) – 2 people are dead after an early Friday morning fire just south of downtown.
FWFD units responded to a reported house fire in the 1200 block of Huestis at 5:30 Friday morning
Upon arrival, crews found the house at 1211 heavily involved with fire and the fire had extended to the house at 1207 Huestis.
FWFD crews immediately called for a 2nd alarm, and began fighting the fire at both locations.
Firefighters entered both houses to evacuate any occupants but were driven back by the flames at 1211 Huestis.
A substantial collapse of the roof occurred shortly afterward.
Eventually, crews gained entry into the home and found 2 victims who had died.
Firefighters are remaining on scene throughout Friday morning to extinguish hidden fires and investigating the cause.
Fire officials said only that it started in the living room of the home at 1211 Huestis.
No fire department injuries were reported.
FWFD was assisted by FWPD, TRAA, AEP, NIPSCO and NCE.
The Allen County Coroner will update the victim’s identities when possible.
